Enyo Law LLP

Tudor Street, London, UK

Enyo Law is a disputes-only Law firm based in London. They moved into new premises in the heart of London’s legal area and shortly afterwards I approached them with my work. Much of Enyo Law’s work is international and after initial discussions I explored themes of worldwide cities. However, given the breadth of their clients’ locations, it was decided more appropriate to focus on London work so not to favour any particular city. London, with an emphasis on the City and legal buildings, was chosen as the theme. Four separate areas required artwork: the Reception, two Meeting Rooms and the Staff Area.

“Alex is a superb professional – an obviously gifted artist, he works very well in collaboration, listens to your requirements, and then produces beautiful bespoke images, with unique themes. His artwork has really lit up our offices - and delights staff and visitors alike!”

Meeting Room 1

The first Meeting Room had a light blue coloured wall and since many of my images are photographed at dawn and dusk it was easy to suggest work that would complement the colour scheme. There was a preference for ‘abstract’ art and so I embarked on photographing a series of images of London skyscrapers entitled ‘looking up’. Fortunately the weather in London was clear and I could capture all the images with a blue sky, which complemented the blue walls. The buildings from left to right are: Canary Wharf, 22 Bishopsgate, The Shard and 30 St Mary Axe.

Meeting Room 2

The second Meeting Room was internal and had no windows, only two large white walls. It was my challenge to suggest two pieces that complemented each other, which would add colour and which would recreate the feeling of windows in the space. After exploring my existing portfolio of images, I decided to photograph two skylines of London. After many attempts at dawn and dusk to capture the right lighting conditions, I worked on an image looking west from Waterloo Bridge. London is constantly evolving and so to perfect the photograph I used images from three separate years (2015, 2019 and 2021), removing temporary cranes and half-built buildings. The other image was taken from the Thames Path in Bermondsey. The pastel colours of dawn and sunset worked extremely well together on the diasec medium.

Reception

The Reception was more of a challenge because it was the most visible area for visiting clients. The space was large and would require bold pieces that could be viewed easily across the room. The preferred subject was ‘Lady Justice’ and I explored representations of Lady Justice and the Scales of Justice across London. Surprisingly they appear more often than I thought, and I discovered much of London above eye level which is fascinating. Buildings including Bow Street Magistrates’ Court, Institute of Chartered Accountants and FCDO to name a few. The final choices were two black and white photographs of Lady Justice on the Old Bailey, photographed in the day and at night, which provided a symmetry to the artwork either side of the lifts in Reception.

It is my intention on each project to use both work from my existing portfolio and new work created specifically for the client. However, as a bespoke service I occasionally allow my imagination to create significantly more new work, which I relish since it develops new ideas and creates new work for my portfolio. My collaboration with Enyo Law produced ten new works out of a total of twelve chosen, including a dawn skyline of London from Waterloo Bridge and dawn view of the RCJ which are now amongst my favourite creations.
